Sunday Evenings at the Union

The classes at the University run from October until the end of the Spring term. They have now finished and will restart in October (2008).

If you would like to learn salsa before October, why not come to Oceana) which runs every Monday night through the year and where we always have lots of new beginners.

Class members on stage, 2006.

These salsa classes are pretty much unique in that one of the aims (but not the only aim) is to create a stage show at the end of term each year, which is an especially rewarding and challenging task for everone!

Sunday Evenings:

5.00pm - 6.00pm Beginners Salsa.

6.00pm - 6.15pm Social Dancing (for practicing real, freestyle Salsa)

6.15pm - 7.00pm Show Choreography

The Beginners Salsa class is suitable for people with no previous dance experience.

The Imp/Intermediate class is for Salseros with a minimum of several months experience with Salsa. If you came to the University salsa classes in previous years this is for you. The class will include some Rueda.

The Show Choreography class (in the Spring term only) is for those people who want to be in the stage-show, it is open to all and will include solo dancing, partner-work, drops and aerials (i.e. girl leaves the ground, returning some time later).

Do I need a Partner? Do I need to book in advance? Do I need special shoes?

No, No and No.

Where is it?

On Queens Road in Central Bristol. Head for the Victoria Rooms and follow Queens Road round to the left, go straight over a few mini-roundabouts and the Union is the grey concrete edifice on your left. Take a look at the map. Use the main entrance on Queens Road and go up the big spiral staircase right in front of you to the 1st floor. We're usually in the "Brunel Suite" (room number MR1) but are sometimes on the 4th floor.

How much are the Classes?

£3 for students (if they become members of DanceSoc) and £4.50 for non-students.

I'm not a student, can I come?

These classes are organised by the University's DanceSociety and in principle are open to both students and to the general public. Occasionally, however, the Security Staff in the Building may restrict entry for non-Students. Sorry for the inconvenience, this is nothing to do with us. You could always come to the classes at Que Pasa instead.
