We welcome new beginners every week. Everyone starts out in this class for a week or two before moving on. You will be carefully taught the fundamental steps of Salsa - you don't need previous dance experience and you don't need to come with a partner. Syllabus: On the spot basic. Back basic. Mambo basic. Rumba basic. Progressive side basic. When you have mastered the basic steps from the Absolute Beginners class, you will want to move on to some simple turns and you will be ready for the Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 classes. Start with Beginner 1 and after a few weeks you'll find it easy to move to Beginner 2. As with all the other classes you will receive careful tuition, enabling you to move on quickly to the Improver classes. Syllabus: Enchufla, Basket, Lady walk turn, Cross body/dile que no. Plus variations on these. Now that you are a confident salsa dancer you will be able to progress rapidly through routines that feature a range of well-known salsa moves. The classes are different each week and cover not just the syllabus below, but also lots of interest variations to give your dancing some sparkle. We run two Improver classes, one at 8.15pm and one at 9pm. Improver 1 is a little easier and only when you are comfortable there would we recommend you progress to Improver 2. Improver 2 will focus on dancing technique that will prepare you for the Intermediate/Advanced class. Syllabus: Cuban basic (guapea), Lady (mambo) walk turn, Cross body/dile que no,Cross body inwards turn (& variations: picture step, crucifix), Cross body outwards turn (& variations), Cross body late outwards turn,Tops, Open breaks, Copa, Cuban tap right turn (siete, setenta), + other moves. Plus variations on these. Once you can easily cope with the Improver classes and can lead/follow the moves freestyle, we suggest you to take the plunge into our Intermediate/Advanced Class. This is probably the most challenging salsa class in Bristol and is intended to stretch even the best dancers. There is no syllabus, instead the routines are different each week (you'll never see the same move twice!). Classes always include complex partner moves including multiple spins, styling, dips, changes to the basic partner footwork and body movement. We sometimes teach the class on 2. Ian has been
teaching Salsa for 9years. He dances many styles of Salsa - Cuban, Rueda,
New York and LA. He runs BristolSalsa and
teaches the Salsa classes for Bristol
University. He spent three years running and choreographing Los
Bravos, a salsa dance troupe. He still spends a lot of time
choreographing and performing, including on several occasions at The
Bristol Harbour Festival. He has DJed at some of the most prestigious
clubs in Bristol, such as Oceana, Java and Syndicate. Laura has an honours degree in Theatre. She studied Contemporary Dance and Ballet for many years and has been teaching Salsa for 4 years. During the day she works for the Colston Hall promoting live music in Bristol. Ian, Louise and Laura have a huge amount of teaching and performing experience and are available for bookings (hen parties, corporate functions, school events, balls, workshops, birthday parties, community events...). | ||||||||||
