We welcome new beginners
every week. Everyone starts out in this class for a week or two before
moving on. You will be carefully taught the fundamental steps of Salsa
- you don't need previous dance experience and you don't need to come
with a partner.
Syllabus: On
the spot basic. Back basic. Mambo basic. Rumba basic. Progressive side
basic.
When you have mastered
the basic steps from the Absolute Beginners class, you will want to
move on to some simple turns and you will be ready for the Beginner+
class. We run two of these classes each week, one at 8pm and the other
at 9pm. The level of the classes is the same, but the two classes will
cover slightly different material. As with all the other classes you
will receive careful tuition, enabling you to move on quickly to the
Improver classes.
Syllabus: Enchufla,
Basket, Lady walk turn, Cross body/dile que no. Plus variations on these.
Now that you are
a confident salsa dancer you will be able to progress rapidly through
routines that feature a range of well-know salsa moves. The classes
are different each week and cover not just the syllabus below, but also
lots of interest variations to give your dancing some sparkle.
We run two Improver
classes, one at 8pm and one at 9pm. The level is very similar but the
routines taught are different. It is a good idea to spend time in both
classes.
Syllabus: Cuban
basic (guapea), Lady (mambo) walk turn, Cross body/dile que no,Cross
body inwards turn (& variations: picture step, crucifix), Cross body
outwards turn (& variations), Cross body late outwards turn, Open break
& top, Open break & pass hand behind back, Copa, Cuban tap right turn
(siete, setenta), + other moves. Plus variations on these.

basket/wrist-lock/hands to shoulders/towels), Enchufla (& variations:
sombrero arms), Enchufa & guys hook turn, Cross body/dile que no, +other
moves
Once you can easily
cope with the Improver classes and can lead/follow the moves freestyle,
we suggest you to take the plunge into our Advanced Class. This is probably
the most challenging salsa class in Bristol and is intended to stretch
even the best dancers.
There is no syllabus,
instead the routines are different each week (you'll never see the same
move twice!). Each class starts with a shines (solo) sequence and then
continues with complex partner moves including multiple spins, styling,
dips, changes to the basic partner footwork and body movement. We sometimes
teach the class on 2. Once a month the class includes some Rueda.
